José Mari Perez

José is a founding member of OFR and currently the male co-chair, and has also served as the Newsletter Editor and Finance Officer. I typically run around 5 km at a slow pace when not injured and enjoy running 5 and 10 km distances at races. I took up running in Toronto during my undergraduate years to maintain a healthy weight and joined Frontrunners Toronto in 1993 during my coming-out process, which culminated in my participation in the Gay Games New York (1994), Gay Games Sydney (2002), and World Outgames Montréal (2006). When not running, I am putting my academic train to use as the Scientific Publishing Editor for the Canadian Journal of Zoology at Canadian Science Publishing (formerly the National Research Council Research Press). My favourite running condition is a snowy winter's day, when even the skaters do not venture out on the canal. My two favourite races thus far have been the National Capital Marathon Race weekend and the Rattle Me Bones. My goal is to be able to run 5 km continuously by the summer of 2012.
